Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, thinks it’s time for a change—and he isn’t sugarcoating it. His advice? Spend less time doomscrolling and more time learning how to use AI.

In a recent interview, Srinivas urged young people—especially those entering the workforce—to shift their attention from social media to AI tools. “People who are at the frontier of using AI are going to be way more employable than people who are not,” he said. And he’s not wrong. With AI evolving at a staggering pace—breakthroughs now arriving every few months—those who stay ahead of the curve will have a serious advantage.

The concern isn’t just productivity. Srinivas believes a major wave of white-collar automation is coming. Entry-level roles like executive assistants and recruiters could soon be replaced by AI tools. His company’s new AI browser, Comet, already handles tasks like calendar management, email drafting, and candidate sourcing—work that traditionally required entire teams. Similar advancements are also being seen in tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT agents, which can autonomously complete complex workflows with minimal human input.

While over 229 million Indians scroll Instagram daily, Perplexity is growing fast, processing more than 780 million queries a month. Valued at $18 billion and backed by major investors like Jeff Bezos and Nvidia, the company is betting big on a future where AI skills matter more than ever.

None of this means you need to quit social media entirely. But it might be time to re-evaluate how you spend your screen time. Srinivas’ message is clear: AI isn’t just a buzzword. It’s a skill, a tool, and for many, a career lifeline. Attention is your most valuable asset—use it wisely.
