On March 2, Claude recorded an estimated 149,000 daily downloads in the United States, surpassing the 124,000 downloads recorded by ChatGPT on the same day.

While ChatGPT remains the dominant player overall, the daily download lead suggests growing interest in Claude among mobile users.

Daily Active Users Have Grown More Than 180 Percent in 2026

Data from Similarweb indicates that Claude’s mobile user base has expanded dramatically in a short period.

On March 2, the Claude app reportedly reached 11.3 million daily active users (DAUs).

For context, the platform had roughly:

  • 4 million DAUs at the start of 2026
  • 5 million DAUs at the start of February

That represents approximately 183 percent growth since January, one of the fastest growth rates among major AI chat applications this year.

Despite the surge, ChatGPT still leads the mobile AI market by a large margin, with an estimated 250.5 million daily active users across iOS and Android.

However, Claude now ranks second among AI chat apps on mobile, ahead of competitors such as:

  • Perplexity
  • Microsoft Copilot

Website Traffic Shows Similar Growth

Claude’s growth is not limited to mobile apps.

According to Similarweb estimates, traffic to the Claude website increased 43 percent month-over-month in February. Compared with the same period last year, web visits jumped 297.7 percent year over year.

In contrast, some competitors saw slower growth during the same period.

ChatGPT’s website traffic reportedly declined 6.5 percent in February, though it remains significantly larger overall.

Gemini experienced only a 2.1 percent increase in web traffic for the month.

Anthropic Reports Over One Million New Sign-Ups Daily

Internal metrics released by Anthropic further highlight Claude’s growing popularity.

The company says its AI assistant now attracts more than one million new sign-ups every day.

The Claude mobile app recently reached No. 1 among free apps in the U.S. App Store, and it has also held the top position in 15 additional countries, including:
