Choice Home Warranty Review: What Homeowners Should Know About Coverage and Claims

Tyler Aug 25, 2025

See what Choice Home Warranty covers, how claims work, real customer feedback, and key exclusions—so you know what to expect before you buy in 2025.

Choice Home Warranty has been a popular option for homeowners in the United States since 2008. With George Foreman—the former heavyweight champion and entrepreneur—serving as spokesperson, the company has gained significant visibility and trust. Foreman’s role in nationwide advertising campaigns has helped Choice Home Warranty establish credibility among both first-time buyers and long-term homeowners.

This review covers the company’s background, services, claims process, login portal, and real customer experiences to help you decide whether Choice Home Warranty is the right fit in 2025.

Company Background

  • Year Established: 2008
  • Founder: Victor Hakim
  • Service Area: United States

The company was created to protect homeowners from the financial shock of unexpected system or appliance breakdowns. Today, it has processed millions of service requests and works with a wide network of pre-screened, licensed contractors.

What Does Choice Home Warranty Cover?

Choice Home Warranty offers annual service contracts that cover certain home systems and appliances that break down due to normal wear and tear. The company’s plans are designed to supplement homeowners’ insurance by focusing on items not typically covered by insurance policies.

  • Standard Coverage:
    • Plumbing systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Heating and air conditioning
    • Major appliances such as refrigerators, ovens, washers, dryers, and dishwashers
  • Optional Add-Ons:
    • Pool and spa equipment
    • Well and sump pumps
    • Roof leak repair
    • Septic systems
    • Additional appliances or systems

It’s important to read the contract carefully because exclusions and coverage caps apply. Some customers have pointed out disputes over exclusions in forums like Reddit’s First Time Home Buyer community, where coverage denial is a common complaint.

Customer Account and Login Process

Choice Home Warranty provides an online account center for policyholders. The login process is as follows:

  1. Access the Portal: Users visit the company’s account center via the main website.
  2. Enter Credentials: Policyholders log in using their email address and policy number.
  3. Account Recovery: If a policy number is forgotten, there is an option to retrieve it through the portal.

Once logged in, customers can:

  • Submit service requests
  • Track the status of existing claims
  • Review policy documents and coverage details
  • Update personal and payment information
  • Communicate with customer service through a message center

The portal is intended to streamline the management of home warranty policies and reduce the need for phone support, though phone assistance remains available at all times.

Claims and Service Process

When a covered system or appliance fails, the claims process generally involves:

  1. Filing a Claim: Customers can file claims online through the portal or by phone at any time.
  2. Service Dispatch: The company assigns a local, licensed technician to assess the issue.
  3. Service Fee: A service call fee, as outlined in the policy, is required for each claim.
  4. Repair or Replacement: If the technician determines the item is covered and cannot be repaired, replacement or a cash settlement may be offered.

Claims may be denied if the issue is determined to be a pre-existing condition, the result of improper maintenance, or otherwise excluded under the policy terms. Policyholders are advised to keep maintenance records and review their contract for specific coverage limitations.

Additional Details

  • No Home Inspection Required: Policies can be purchased without a home inspection, but coverage for unknown pre-existing conditions is excluded.
  • Coverage Activation: Coverage typically begins 30 days after enrollment unless there is continuous prior coverage.
  • Annual Terms: Most plans are for one year, with renewal options available.
  • Technician Network: The company works with a large network of pre-screened, licensed, and insured service professionals.

Customer Experience

Feedback from users in 2025 highlights several recurring themes:

  • Many customers find the appointment scheduling process straightforward, with online and phone options available.
  • Service times are generally described as prompt, though experiences may vary depending on location and the nature of the repair.
  • Technicians are often noted for their professionalism and ability to explain repairs.
  • The online portal is viewed as a convenient way to manage policies and claims, though some users prefer direct phone contact, especially for urgent issues.

Some customers have reported delays or disputes regarding coverage, particularly in cases involving policy exclusions or maintenance requirements. As with any service contract, outcomes can depend on the specifics of the policy and the situation.

Conclusion

Choice Home Warranty offers service contracts aimed at helping homeowners manage the financial impact of unexpected repairs to covered home systems and appliances. The company provides an online portal for policy management and a network of technicians for service calls. As with any warranty provider, it is important for homeowners to carefully review policy terms, understand coverage limitations, and maintain records of home maintenance to ensure a smooth claims process. This approach can help set realistic expectations and make the most of a home warranty plan.

This write up is a bloody joke! Unfortunately, without proper vetting of these folks, I signed up for 2 1/2 years - almost $1,600 up front. Had one problem a few months ago - built in gas stove. Fellow came out, checked it out and said it needed a part (paid him $75 fee). Came back and installed the part. Short time later, stopped working. Service guy said it needed a "main board" and he could not find one, suggested CHW replace unit. They said no. they found a part, he came back later and installed. We left on vacation for a few weeks. Tried to use oven, same error message! Contacted CHW about continuing problem, they assigned ANOTHER claim #! I told them repeatedly, it was a continuation of original problem. Their repair guy said he could come out, but it would be no use, since it needed to be replaced. He said we would have to pay him another $75 for him to call CHW and tell them the unit needed to be replaced!!!! we did, he did and CHW sent an email saying "in lieu of replacement, we are offering you funds ($891)in the form of Lowe's eGift Card". Before answering their email, we went to Lowe's and spent about an hour going over the options to replace what we had...bottom-line, it was going to cost over $1,600 to get a SMALLER oven! I have sent these people SEVEN emails ... no reply! Technician they sent out could barely speak English; found it very difficult to communicate with him. This evening I went out to BBB to check and see if there were any complaints: WOW! Out of 4,184 reviews, the average rating was 1.03 stars (out of 5)!!!

Choice Home Warranty’s technician network is definitely a strong point. The professionals who’ve worked on my appliances have always been courteous and helpful. However, I’ve found that the limited flexibility on cancellations can be frustrating. If you need to adjust a service appointment last minute, the options are not always as flexible as I’d like.

I signed up for Choice Home Warranty after my dishwasher broke down, and I’ve found their service convenient and quick. The technician network they work with has been reliable so far, and I appreciate how professional they’ve been.
